Who is "them"? (not the grammar police!) The critics, the gallerist, the collectors, my audience. I'm afraid of them. Afraid of what they will think if I leave passages undone, or don't paint the actual colors in front of me. Or if all the details aren't noted. But I am the artist and have to stop allowing all those worries to interfere. Too often, I go back and correct and correct until all the life is taken away. (Honestly, her forearm looks too long to me now.) My job is to convey what interested me about a subject and make people want to look harder at it - whether its a beautiful subject outright, or something more mundane. Otherwise, take a photo.
